• I was raised here, attended Neoga Grade School and Neoga High School, raised my family here and for most of my life have shared experiences with each of you here and your families. You have given me a good understanding of the values we share, what you want, what you need and expect from the Sheriff’s Office.

• The past 22 years that I have served as Cumberland County Deputy Sheriff, including the past 19 years as your Chief Deputy, has offered me yet another opportunity to listen, learn, share with, and offer assistance in keeping our county safer and a better place to live and raise our families.

• I serve on the Housing Authority Board and have since 2007. I serve on the 9-1-1 Board which started in 2001. And I am a part-time police officer for the City of Neoga and have been since 2002. I was the Neoga Junior High School Boys Basketball Coach from 2008 to 2015. I am currently the Cumberland Junior High Schools Boys Basketball Coach.

I am honored to be allowed this privilege and am proud of the level of trust we have established over the years, for trust in one another is essential, especially between people and police.

• I am a 1979 graduate of Neoga High School, a 1989 graduate of the University of Illinois Police Training Institute, and a 1992 graduate of Lake Land College with a degree in Applied Science majoring in Law Enforcement. Over 800 hours of classroom and practical law enforcement training, including School Safety and Active Shooter Responses.

• In 1989, I was hired as a Deputy Sheriff for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, where I performed full duty responsibilities of patrol, crime prevention, incident first responder, making arrests, booking inmates, testifying in court, community education, support in jail operations and procedures.

• The Sheriff designated me as the Sheriff’s Office personnel to serve in the East Central Illinois Drug Task Force, where I was certified by the Illinois State Police as an Inspector and worked undercover in drug investigations for a two-year rotation, then returned to my duties as a uniformed Deputy Sheriff.

• In 1992, I was appointed as Chief of Police of the City of Arcola, Illinois, where I developed essential administrative and leadership responsibilities, including budgeting, hiring and supervision of personnel, working with elected board members and responding to the needs of my community.

• In 1996, a position became open for Deputy Sheriff in Cumberland County. My wife and I saw the opportunity to return home to the place where our original family and friends reside.

• In 2018, I was elected Sheriff in Cumberland County.

I have a degree in Law Enforcement, and I have completed the 400-hour Police Training plus at least 800 additional hours of specific police training.

I have served several years as an on-the-road Deputy Sheriff; two years as an Illinois State Police Inspector working as an undercover agent; almost four years as a Chief of Police; and 19 years as the Cumberland County Chief Deputy Sheriff.

As Chief Deputy, I have assisted in directing the operations of the Jail, which is one of the primary administrative and complex duties of the Office of Sheriff.

I serve as an Officer of the Court. We are responsible for court security and care of the Courthouse.

I have served as the D.A.R.E Officer for Cumberland Elementary School. The D.A.R.E program helps students recognize and resist the pressures of using drugs such as alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drugs.
